Second Serves Under Inspection as Bassols Meets Maristany on Clay

Maristany returns to the surface that suits her instincts

Maristany’s latest documented run began with a composed win over Jodie Burrage in US Open qualifying. Bassols has the higher gear, but not always the handbrake

The second seed therefore arrives with proven comeback capacity but uneven control of momentum. Her match rhythm is broader than Maristany’s, and her recent clay sequence was the more substantial one, even though her official profile lists hard court as her preferred surface. Bassols is fit, has no current injury concern and also has the incentive of rebuilding confidence before joining Spain for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals later in September.

The first neutral ball will decide who owns the rally

This match is likely to be driven by return pressure rather than routine service holds. Maristany’s serve was repeatedly exposed by Zidansek, while Bassols has recently mixed double faults and loose service games into otherwise strong passages.
